What is your biggest regret?

I didn’t buy a second pair of Visvim shoes when I was in Tokyo a few months ago.

Please describe your style in three words.

Classic meets utilitarian.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Overthinking.

Do you believe in role models?

Absolutely — we all need them and we should all aspire to be one. Your actions will influence others.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Nick Wooster.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Crisp ones.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

No, it’s all about your confidence that determines whether an outfit works or not.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

Tokyo for sure.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Boldly conservative.

What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

Go with what feels right — be authentic to yourself by searching inside, and don’t be afraid to take a little risk.

Celebrities and style...

Is an oxymoron.

One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

White shirts.

A man should always look like...

He just met the girl of his dreams or got the promotion of his dreams. Courage + confidence = happiness.

Who taught you what you know about style?

I have had many style mentors, but it all started with my late uncle John Bell, who built Esprit de Corps in Australia.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

I ask myself how I feel that day and try to match an outfit to the answer.

The three essential things a man should know about style are...

Keep it simple, risk a little, stay true to yourself.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Always be shopping. It doesn’t mean you have to always be buying, but always be looking.

We will never see you wearing...

Ugg boots.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His confidence.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Paul Newman in The Sting.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

The White Briefs for underwear, 3x1 for denim, Want - Les Essentiels De La Vie for bags and travel accessories, Julian Boots for shoes, Todd Snyder for a complete package, Arc’teryx Veilance for outerwear.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is...

His shoes.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

Visvim Shoes, a vintage 1942 US Army jacket, and anything Comme des Garçons.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Never, it is essential to great style.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Ralph Lauren, Martin Margiela, Thom Browne.

Who would you like to see next in My Style€?

Byron and Dexter Peart.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

"Style is someone who figures out who they are, what works on them and what they feel good in, which develops their character. The outer expression of their character is what style is." — Tom Ford (What’s inside a creative mind)
