The three essential things a woman should know about style are…

Red lipstick is always a good idea, being skinny doesn't mean you are cool, and elegance is something different than style.

Please describe your style in three words.

Personal, unconventional, and relaxed.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Feeling uncomfortable in your own clothes.

Do you believe in role models?

Yes, I do. But not for what they wear.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Silk, tweed, and leather.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

I'm not in a position to object to anything. What I can say is that I love experimentation and creativity when it's real and not when it is too planned and artificial.

Which city has the best-dressed women?

Italy, in general.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

I would say that I'm conservative in a bold way and I'm bold in a conservative way...it depends on the day.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

I have to feel comfortable in what I wear. What I'm wearing has to express my personality. It doesn't have to be a cage.

Celebrities and style...

Are not always synonymous...

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Hats, obviously!

A woman should always look like…

A woman.

Who taught you what you know about style?

My mum and her innate elegance.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

By what I call “morning feeling”. It's not always the same and it's impossible to predict the night before how you will feel the day after.

What is your biggest regret?

That I didn't listen to enough fairy tales told by my grandparents.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Not really, but I do prefer to go shopping by myself.

We will never see you wearing…

Anything with a skull pattern.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

I come from the new generation of young designers, so there are many that I admire a lot. Like Arthur Arbesser for his fresh and honest approach to fashion, or Comeforbreakfast for the great research. Also, Daizy Shely for her colourful, fairy tail-like vision.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

My friends Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh from Art Comes First; they are always on point.

What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

Her self-confidence.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

An old leather biker jacket that follows me in all my travels, and all the dresses that remind me of something and someone special.

The one image that defined your approach to style…

An old picture of Diana Vreeland in her red living room, shot by Horst P. Horst in 1979. I adore the way she totally matches with the room. I love the idea that your own environment reflects exactly who you are.

Which fashion house never fails to impress you?

Marni, Rodarte, and Dries Van Noten.

One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is…

What people can't see: her underwear.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Absolutely not! Comfort is what makes you feel comfortable and feeling comfortable is the first “rule” in order to be authentic.

Who would you like to recommend for My Style?

Benedetta Bruzziches.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

“Some people talk and talk their whole lives and no one remembers one thing they’ve said. Other people say one thing and it gets repeated one hundred years later, which just shows you that it's all about quality, not quantity.” — Tom Waits
