Please describe your style in three words.

Sexy, rock 'n' roll edgy, and girly.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Wearing too many trends in one outfit.

Do you believe in role models?

Absolutely.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Cotton, jersey, denim, and silk.

Which city has the best-dressed women?

New York City.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Bold.

What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

Always add an edgier twist to every outfit with shoes, jewellery, a bag, etc.

Celebrities and style...

Are like peanut butter and jelly.

One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

There are too many, but if I had to narrow it down, it would be black shoes and edgy jewelry.

A woman should always look like...

She cares about the way she looks but looks like she does it effortlessly.

Who taught you what you know about style?

I would have to say my mom but really, I think it was just her letting me play a lot of dress up and organising outfits in her closet. She'd agree I was born having an opinion about everything I was dressed in.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

It depends on the weather. In NYC in the summer it is all about staying cool, so the least amount of clothing in the most organised outfit possible. Dresses are my summer staple. In the winter you can really accessorise and layer, which makes dressing daily a lot more interesting.

What is your biggest regret?

Nothing. I live my life with no regrets. You shouldn't dwell on the past — only continue on a plan for the future.

The three essential things a woman should know about style are...

Accessories can make any outfit look like it cost a million bucks. Good eye make-up can take you from drab to glam in minutes. Red pumps can make any woman look sexy.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

I just wear dresses — because it is the easiest to get off to try things on — and shoes that easily slip off so I can try the floor samples on.

We will never see you wearing...

Pearls, pastels, or kitten heels.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

I try to represent as much new talent that I admire on my site if it mixes well with our mix. I currently carry this new handbag line that I think is very original called Collina Strada, and I am getting a jewellery line name Caja that I think my customers will love. I also really love and admire the newer clothing line, Sea.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever met?

Probably Betsey Johnson. I worked for her for a long time and I don't think I've ever met or seen someone that had style that original.

What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

Her shoes.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My shoes. I think of them as a gallery of paintings.

Which designer/fashion house never fails to impress you?

Alexander McQueen.

One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is...

A blazer. Just like a man's, a woman's blazer should be tailored to fit her and have a cinched waist.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Absolutely not. Just spend a day riding the train in New York. You'll find plenty of stylish ladies running about in cute, comfortable styles.

The best word of advice you have ever heard?

"You'll never know if you don't try."
