Are there any style combinations that you object to?

I only run when I am chased, so I object to any style combination that includes sneakers.

Please describe your style in three words.

Elegant, effortless, nonchalance.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Overthinking things.

Do you believe in role models?

Absolutely! One should always have an inspiration and be open to learn from others.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Silks and cashmere.

Which city has the best-dressed women?

Paris — even on the metro.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

I’m a blend. I hate the idea of confining myself to one category.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

If I feel like the look is wearing me, I won’t wear it.

Celebrities and style...

Do not always go hand-in-hand.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Shoes.

A woman should always look like...

Her style is effortless and not contrived.

Who taught you what you know about style?

My mother. She wears a blazer and heals at 6 AM when she takes her dog for a walk around Gramercy Park.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

I think of what I am doing that day and what kind of wardrobe that will require.

What is your biggest regret?

I gave away a Bob Mackie dress in college. I still cry about it.

The three essential things a woman should know about style are...

Less is more, don’t try too hard, and dress-up your assets.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Net-A-Porter — what’s new on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning.

We will never see you wearing...

Wedge sneakers.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Eddie Borgo for his business and branding acumen. Edie Parker’s Brett Heyman for focusing on quality and on one product category. Marchesa for owning the gown category and their impeccable execution in product and marketing.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

My mother. She is the epitome of grace and elegance.

What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

Her smile.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

Nothing is too precious to treasure forever.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Slim Keith.

Which fashion house never fails to impress you?

Alexander McQueen.

One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is...

Her shoes.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

No, it is a necessity. Nothing is worse than watching someone uncomfortable in their own skin — or second skin.

Who would you like to recommend for €œMy Style€?

Holli Rogers, fashion director at Net-a-Porter and Samantha Wills, jewellery designer.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

"Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened." — Dr Seuss.
