Is comfort an enemy of style?

I don’t know, but it's my best friend. I think style really comes from inside. You can wear a pair of jeans and a T-shirt and be so stylish, look at Jane Birkin.

Please describe your style in three words.

Nostalgic, cinematic, dramatic.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Trying too hard.

Do you believe in role models?

Of course, I have hundreds!

What are your favourite fabrics?

I love linen in the summer, and velvet in the winter.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

None.

Which city has the best-dressed women?

Paris, of course!

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Conservative but dramatic, a bit over the top.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

No rules really, I just wear things I find beautiful and flattering.

Celebrities and style...

Is a huge money-making business.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Sunglasses.

A woman should always look like…

She doesn’t really care…

Who taught you what you know about style?

Not that I have extensive knowledge about anything, but women in classic films have always been huge references for me in terms of style.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

In the morning I choose comfort; I am dressed in five minutes. In the evenings I choose glamour. That can take more time.

What is your biggest regret?

None to date.

The three essential things a woman should know about style are…

It is within.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

I like to go to Céline or to buy things online; I always have a look at Tom Ford, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Alexander McQueen.

We will never see you wearing...

Something boring.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

I love Mary Katrantzou because she is hardworking and very talented. I love Christopher Kane and Erdem, too.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

Inès de la Fressange has great style.

What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

Her charisma.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

All my vintage Yves Saint Laurent pieces. I treasure them like jewellery.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

The first images of Yves Saint Laurent’s women’s suit.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Jean Paul Gaultier.

One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is…

Her tights…they should always be of great quality, otherwise it can take the whole look down.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Think big.
