Celebrities and style...

Or to be more specific, so-called “celebrity style” is far too safe and uniform — too many people have too many uninformed opinions on it, and everyone has become terrified of getting dressed for events! Not very inspiring for the people involved…

Please describe your style in three words.

Easy, streamlined, classic.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Looking fussy! Looking like you thought too much about it…

Do you believe in role models?

Of course.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Silk, lace, tweed, and denim.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

No.

Which city has the best-dressed women?

Paris or Stockholm.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

I would say I am conservative and bold! I believe very strongly in contradictions.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

I always consider what kind of image I may project by what I am wearing… including whether or not I can bend over on the set of a photo shoot and remain decent!

Do you have any shopping rituals?

I look at racks from left to right, and I ALWAYS look at the sale section first and focus! It helps to be able to “edit” quickly while perusing so you don’t waste your time on things that won’t work…

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Well-cut blazers.

A woman should always look like...

She has something to say.

Who taught you what you know about style?

My grandmother, Jane Kreusler, and my mother, Jane Kreusler-Walsh; since I was a very small girl, I perfected the art of copying perfection.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

I think about where I am going, how long I will be standing, who I will be seeing, and what is the most flattering! I always keep in mind that clothing tends to dictate your mood, so I do try to “step it up” and keep it chic, especially for grey days.

What is your biggest regret?

I do have many regrets, but I am grateful for all of them — I like being the sum of these, isn’t that character?

The three essential things a woman should know about style are...

Don’t overdo it. Don’t be afraid of overdoing it. Go with what you do and wear it well — You can always tell if someone is not “owning” what they are wearing. The most stylish people completely embody what they put on.

We will never see you wearing...

Hervé Léger dresses! Sorry, it doesn’t work for me!

Which new designers do you follow and why?

I adore Jason Wu. He is a “class act” talent across the board — he really loves the women that he designs for. I also love The Row. Those girls have the best taste of anyone I have met, and they have done something so specific and so special — it is rare and will be lasting. I am always blown away by what they come up with.

Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Patti Smith, and Kate Moss.

What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

Does she look comfortable? That word covers lots of territory.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

A gown my grandmother gave me that she wore on a very fateful night in 1976.

The one image that defined your approach to style…

When I was young, it was Jackie Kennedy. In college, it was Sarah Jessica Parker. Now, it is probably Lauren Hutton or Ines de la Fressange.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Miuccia Prada.

One article of clothing that a woman needs to pay close attention to is...

Her undergarments.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Comfort is the most important element of style.

Who would you like to recommend for œMy Style€?

Elizabeth Saltzman. That woman is so much cooler than me.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

I think it’s all in Kipling’s poem “If”. Basically, keeping the faith in yourself, in the world you live in, in the people around you. Everything does happen for some reason, so it’s best to just go with it…
