Who taught you what you know about style?

I am self-taught, I always had an interest as a child. When we went to Kenya as a family and I was ten years old, I insisted on packing my suit and tie.

Please describe your style in three words.

Classic modern twist.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

If wearing a suit, matching your handkerchief pattern and colour with your tie.

Do you believe in role models?

Without them society would be lost. Imagine growing up on a desert island without any human influences. Then think about dress sense! Classic James Bond for me is the epitome of style.

What are your favourite fabrics?

I love linen in the summer, can't beat a linen suit.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Wearing long neck ties to a formal black tie event — I don't find this new Hollywood import refined. I prefer a more classic style.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

These days people in general are awfully dressed everywhere. I still wear a suit to the doctor! Perhaps you can call me old-fashioned in that way.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Certainly a mixture of both, I love bringing back traditional styles. Ten years ago wearing a handkerchief as a pocket square was out of fashion. Three-piece suits with a waistcoat were extinct. The classics never look out of place.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

I opt for clothes that fit well, that are tailored, and snug.

Celebrities and style...

Are always a talking point.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

My black suede loafers, perfect on anything from formal to casual — except when it rains!

A man should always look like...

He has effortlessly dressed himself but still looks refined.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

I don't give it much thought, hence I take my time and many a girlfriend has been angry with that.

What is your biggest regret?

I never have regrets, always look forward.

The three essential things a man should know about style are...

Be yourself. Research anything you don't know. Always look sharp.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

It all stems from the first item; when I buy one thing I end up on a shopping spree.

We will never see you wearing...

Tracksuit and trainers.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Some of the older gentlemen wearing impeccable morning suits, waistcoats, and top hats in the royal enclosure of Royal Ascot.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His shoes and watch.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Classic English Savile Row tailoring.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

My friend James Harvey-Kelly is an excellent tailor that encapsulates the classic and modern styles, I would highly recommend him.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My handkerchiefs, ties, and suits. In particular my silk top hat which is an antique at over sixty years old.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Absolutely not, you should always be comfortable.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Ralph Lauren. He is the only American designer who you can put on the same level as iconic European designers like Giorgio Armani and Prada.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Always follow your passion in life for what you believe in, otherwise why live at all.
