Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Conservative in my style, bold in my character.

Please describe your style in three words.

College, tailored, in order.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Not looking at a full mirror.

Do you believe in role models?

I believe in people with good, personal taste.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Cashmere, cotton poplin, grosgrain.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

I think that some people can wear anything they want, if they are able to pull it off. Others should keep it calm.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

Anvers, Belgium.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

Good quality, simple design, always in the right place with the right look.

Celebrities and style...

And their stylists.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

White shirts.

A man should always look like...

He hasn't really tried hard to look good.

Who taught you what you know about style?

Fashion magazines, travelling, cinema, curiosity.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

Randomly. I have a well-organised wardrobe.

What is your biggest regret?

Avoiding the gym.

The three essential things a man should know about style are...

Have a good hairdresser and visit him often. Always look and smell clean. Have your clothes ironed properly.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Apart from my tailor in Milan who makes my suits, normally I buy things when travelling.

We will never see you wearing...

Glittery fabrics or bold prints.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Cesare Cunaccia, Editor-at-Large of Vogue Italia.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

The shoulders and how the fabric falls on them.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Cary Grant in high-waisted trousers. Wavy hair and lots of attitude.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Christophe Lemaire and AMI for their fresh and soft approach into men's wardrobe codes.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is...

I don't believe men should read about fashion. They should trust their tailor.

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My tailored suits, vintage Helmut Lang and Raf Simons. My shoes.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

Style should always be comfortable.

Which designer never fails to impress you?

Lucas Ossendrijver, designer of Lanvin menswear.

Who would you like to recommend for My Style€?

Atelier Santerasmo Cinque, a new tailoring house in Milano. They do amazing work.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Never walk down the street with your jacket open, especially if it's a double breasted one.
