Please describe your style in three words.

Jacques Cousteau meets Woody Allen. It’s five words but sometimes you just need five words instead of three.

What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Bad shoes. Everyone in New York judges you based on your shoes.

Do you believe in role models?

Yes. Just make sure you never meet them. Idols are to be kept at a distance. Or dead. If they’re dead it’s guaranteed.

What are your favourite fabrics?

Linen and velvet. I wear linen all the time. Velvet is more just for the texture.

Are there any style combinations that you object to?

It’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it. So anything goes.

Which city has the best-dressed men?

Maybe New York. Maybe Paris. Definitely not Los Angeles.

Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Conservative. Keep it classic.

What are the rules in the way you dress?

I’m currently in love with navy. So I try to have as much of it as possible.

Name one garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Levi's 501s and Hanes white T-shirts.

A man should always look like…

He’s comfortable.

Who taught you what you know about style?

Paul Newman. At every age.

How do you select your clothing every morning?

My girlfriend gives very strong opinions.

What is your biggest regret?

No regrets. What would be the point? It all goes where it goes.

The three essential things a man should know about style are…

You should be comfortable. Effort should be minimal. Grooming is essential.

Do you have any shopping rituals?

Bergdorf Goodman. It’s the greatest.

We will never see you wearing...

I would never say never.

The most stylish person you have ever seen...

Alireza Niroomand. He’s the manager of New York restaurant Sant Ambroeus.

What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His shoes.

The one image that defined your approach to style...

Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke. Jeans, chambray shirt, white T-shirt.

Which new designers do you follow and why?

Adi from threeASFOUR. I like their aesthetic and I think she’s amazing. Loro Piana because their cashmere is the greatest. Pookie Burch, a friend and Tory Burch’s daughter, she has a new line with her sister Louisa called Trademark. It’s classic and it’s great.

The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is…

His shoes. I think I’ve said it three times so hear it loud and clear!

What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

An icy blue Dries Van Noten suit is my most treasured item.

Is comfort an enemy of style?

No. It’s a must. Form and function, they must coexist.

Which fashion house never fails to impress you?

Brioni. They are consistently amazing time after time.

Who would you like to recommend for My Style?

Mark Gonzales.

The best words of advice you have ever heard?

Keep on trucking.
