Q: Which new designers do you admire and why?

AF Vandevorst for the strength of his sobriety; Nicolas Formichetti for his kindness and his creative madness; and Riccardo Tisci for the modernity of his vision.

Q: Please describe your style in three words.

Made in Belgium.

Q: What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Not being elegant.

Q: Do you believe in role models?

Absolutely not; we prefer the strong personality to the plastic beauty.

Q: What are your favourite fabrics?

Metal…

Q: Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Wearing espadrilles.

Q: Which city has the best-dressed men?

London because of Savile Row…the definition of a gentleman.

Q: Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Audacious for sure.

Q: What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

The only rule is to be free to wear what you like.

Q: One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Accessories: jewels, belts and bags.

Q: A man should always look like…

A modern dandy, a prince of rock ‘n’ roll.

Q: Who taught you what you know about style?

The present.

Q: How do you select your clothing every morning?

Depending on our mood, the weather outside…most of the time in black, not usually in color blocking.

Q: Your biggest regret is…

Not being able to meet Alexander McQueen.

Q: The three essential things a man should know about style are…

1) A jacket with an impeccable cut. 2) A perfume we will remember. 3) A special attention to his shoes.

Q: Do you have any shopping rituals?

We do not lower our guard and we are very curious; we are still always aware of finding the piece…

Q: We will never see you wearing…

A ‘jogging suit with sneakers’ sport look.

Q: The most stylish person you have ever seen…

Karl Lagerfeld & Edith Bouvier [Beale].

Q: What is the first thing you notice on a man?

His shoes.

Q: The one image that defined your approach to style…

The landscape in Belgium, a mix of beauty and ferocity…

Q: The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is…

The cut of his trousers.

Q: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

The very first Dior Homme jacket by Hedi Slimane.

Q: Is comfort an enemy of style?

As Anna Dello Russo said, “If you feel comfortable, you will never get the look.”

Q: Which designer never fails to impress you?

Alexander McQueen and Chanel.

Q: The best word of advice you have ever heard?

Less is more!
