Q: Which designer never fails to impress you?

Jean Paul Gaultier. He’s a genius.

Q: Please describe your style in three words.

Tailored, androgynous, pragmatic.

Q: What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Trying too hard.

Q: Do you believe in role models?

It depends on the profession and what the person has achieved. I think the word ‘role model’ has lost meaning in this day and age.

Q: What are your favourite fabrics?

Duchesse satin, silk, wool and cotton.

Q: Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Short, skimpy dresses — basically overexposure.

Q: Which city has the best-dressed women?

Paris.

Q: Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

I’m probably both. Maybe.

Q: What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

Your handbag should match your shoes — a rule passed down from my grandmother.

Q: Celebrities and style…

Depends on the celebrity and the style.

Q: One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Trench coats and brogues.

Q: A woman should always look…

Classic and elegant.

Q: Who taught you what you know about style?

My grandfather, Kenneth Lamar Nielsen Sr. — the style icon of the family.

Q: How do you select your clothing every morning?

I don’t.

Q: What is your biggest regret?

Probably not starting my business earlier, but I do feel like a have a better foundation now.

Q: Do you have any shopping rituals?

Quality over quantity.

Q: We will never see you wearing…

A short, tight skimpy dress.

Q: Who is the most stylish person you have ever seen?

Audrey Hepburn.

Q: What is the first thing you notice on a woman?

How she presents herself.

Q: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

A Navajo necklace that my father purchased for me at a Native American Powwow.

Undergarments. They are the foundation.

It depends…
