Q: What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?
Dress with ‘handsome’ in mind and dress for the occasion/weather/crowd.
Q: Please describe your style in three words.
Simple and classic, but evolving.
Q: What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
Forgetting what actually ‘looks good’ on you and following trends blindly.
Q: Do you believe in role models?
Of course, for inspiration and ideas.
Q: What are your favourite fabrics?
Cotton pique, cotton t-shirts, cotton oxford shirts. Cotton!
Q: Are there any style combinations that you object to?
No life-or-death objections, but I’m not a fan of flip flops with any kind of long pants.
Q: Which city has the best-dressed men?
London for sure; best combination of classic/conservative and edgy/hip.
Q: Would you say that you are conservative or bold?
Conservative because I’m very practical and don’t tend to overthink it. I love color though, so I usually have something bright on, which I guess is bolder.
Q: Celebrities and style…
Are both about charisma. Style is not always about clothes. But charisma is always part of style.
Q: One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?
Bright colored pants.
Q: A man should always look…
His best.
Q: Who taught you what you know about style?
My father, my brother, and my designer friends.
Q: How do you select your clothing every morning?
The first thing is to choose which pants I want to wear. Everything else comes after.
Q: What is your biggest regret?
With clothes? By all means, no regrets.
Q: The three essential things a man should know about style are…
There’s a saying in Spanish that says men should look ‘strong, unaffected, and formal.’
Q: Do you have any shopping rituals?
Not really. My favorite things to shop for are shoes and perfume.
Q: We will never see you wearing…
Chunky flip flops.
Q: The most stylish person you have ever seen…
I have a very short term memory for that unfortunately.
Q: What is the first thing you notice on a man?
The hairstyle.
Q: The one image that defined your approach to style…
Alain Delon in “The Leopard.” I think the men’s styling in that movie is incredible.
Q: Which new designers do you follow and why?
Alexandre Mattiusi, YMC and Burkman Brothers. I like how fresh and masculine they all feel.
Q: The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is…
There’s not only one; but a well fitted shirt is super important. Ever see those guys with the balloony shirts that blow up in the back?
Q: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
My shoes.
Q: Is comfort an enemy of style?
No; especially not for men. We are not the ones in high heels or corsets.
Q: Which designer never fails to impress you?
I’m always impressed by the Thom Browne runway shows.
Q: Who would you like to see next in “My Style”?
The women behind A’maree’s of Newport Beach. Their ethos behind style and fashion is enlightening.
Q: The best words of advice you have ever heard?
“Be the best version of yourself.”
