Q: What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?

Overdoing it. We all want to look great in our clothes, but there is no need to make a parody out of fashion.

Q: Please describe your style in three words.

Simple, classic, easy.

Q: Do you believe in role models?

Yes, it’s always beneficial to have someone you can get guidance from and trust their opinion.

Q: What are your favourite fabrics?

Soft cotton jersey, French terry, and the textured fabrics from Italian and Spanish mills that we work with.

Q: Are there any style combinations that you object to?

Dress shoes with shorts. There are probably a few men that can pull it off, but I’m a little more traditional in my tastes.

Q: Which city has the best-dressed men?

New York City. This place is a bottomless pit of inspiration for personal style.

Q: Would you say that you are conservative or bold?

Conservative — but in a good way.

Q: What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?

Dark is better.

Q: One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?

Good quality tees. It’s great to have the basic t-shirt to turn to. A good quality tee can be worn with so many things.

Q: A man should always look like…

He cares but doesn’t really try.

Q: Who taught you what you know about style?

Steven Alan.

Q: How do you select your clothing every morning?

Whatever is clean.

Q: What is your biggest regret?

My biggest regret but also my best decision… not finishing college.

Q: The three essential things a man should know about style are…

Fit, proportion, and color combinations.

Q: Do you have any shopping rituals?

I typically will start uptown with Barney’s, Bergdorf, and Saks, and work my way down to all the cool boutiques downtown.

Q: We will never see you wearing…

A golf shirt.

Q: The most stylish person you have ever seen…

Japanese buyers at the Capsule tradeshow — they can pull off incredibly complex ideas with ease.

Q: What is the first thing you notice on a man?

I don’t really notice anything on men.

Q: The one image that defined your approach to style…

Not sure I have one. I draw a lot from just observing things and people around me. Refer back to the New York City answer above.

Q: Which new designers do you follow and why?

Timo Weiland because his prints are dope.

Q: The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is…

His denim.

Q: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?

My Theory suits.

Q: Is comfort an enemy of style?

Absolutely not. You just have to nail the fit.

Q: Which designer never fails to impress you?

Vince.

Q: Who would you like to see next in “My Style”?

The guys behind Base in Miami (Steven and Bruce).

Q: The best words of advice you have ever heard?

To be successful, you have to have your heart in your business and your business in your heart.
