Q: How do you select your clothing every morning?
I go with my gut — I don’t think men have to necessarily follow seasonal trends when dressing. But I always want to look comfortable and confident — whether it’s snowing, raining or hot out. No matter what, I always try to look my best!
Q: Please describe your style in three words.
Confident, bold, and fun.
Q: What is the biggest mistake one can make when getting dressed?
Not paying attention to the weather for that current day.
Q: Do you believe in role models?
Everyone needs a role model or role models. They allow us to try and follow our dreams and become something!
Q: What are your favourite fabrics?
Cashmere, denim, cashmere-silk blend.
Q: Are there any style combinations that you object to?
I have never been a big fan of the t-shirt under the blazer look — if you don’t do it just right or are not quite so fit, it can very easily look sloppy.
Q: Which city has the best-dressed men?
Florence.
Q: Would you say that you are conservative or bold?
Bold over conservative.
Q: What are the rules, if any, in the way you dress?
Working in both the restaurant and fashion industries, I have some flexibility in what I can wear. But whether it’s for day or evening, everything must fit properly. I am a true believer of staying in shape, so clothes should complement your body.
Q: Celebrities and style…
Sometimes have no clue of how to dress.
Q: One garment/accessory that you can never have enough of?
My Luminor Marina Panerai Watch, and Paul Smith loafers.
Q: A man should always look like…
The best dressed when he walks into the room.
Q: Who taught you what you know about style?
My father was always influential in my style, and traveling and living in Europe showed me how to put it together.
Q: What is your biggest regret?
Not working to my full potential on the soccer pitch.
Q: The three essential things a man should know about style are…
Fit, fit, fit!
Q: Do you have any shopping rituals?
I am my own best customer at Windsor Custom — I will set aside at least a half hour to review the latest fabric swatches that have come in. I make myself comfortable — have Sports Center on, the daily papers on hand, and always listen to the newest mixtape out.
Q: We will never see you wearing…
Boxers.
Q: The most stylish person you have ever seen…
David Beckham.
Q: What is the first thing you notice on a man?
His shirt or jacket.
Q: Which new designers do you follow and why?
I have my core designers I really pay attention to: Michael Bastian, Brunello Cucinelli, and Ralph Lauren.
Q: The only article of clothing that a man needs to pay close attention to is…
Pay attention to all of them.
Q: What are the most treasured items in your wardrobe?
I have a pretty large shoe collection, so I take pride in making sure they are always treated well.
Q: Is comfort an enemy of style?
Not at all… even though my clothes are a pretty fit that doesn’t mean they are uncomfortable.
Q: Which designer never fails to impress you?
Brunello Cucinelli and Ralph Lauren.
Q: Who would you like to see next in “My Style”?
My partner, Matt Shendell.
Q: The best words of advice you have ever heard?
How you walk into the room sets the tone.
